The purpose of a veterans memorial is to honor and commemorate the service, sacrifices, and bravery of military veterans who have served their county. This memorial location will serve as public recognition of the individuals who have defended or contributed to the nation’s security, often in times of war. The memorial would provide a space for reflection, remembrance and education, allowing future generations to learn about the costs of military service. Veteran memorials aim to offer a sense of closure and respect to the families and communities of those who served. Overall, memorials are symbols of gratitude, remembrance and respect for veterans’ contributions to their county.
York Veterans Memorial will be landscaped with trees, paths, granite plaques for veteran’s names to honor them, flags and walls with educational information about military and wars of the past. This area will also provide a location to hold Veterans Day services and hosting military bands.
