Rookie All-Stars - March 6, 13, 20, 27
Get a jumpstart on becoming an All-Star! This program will focus on a different sport each week, teaching the fundamentals and increasing the awareness of each sport for the kids. The program is set up to have the first hour focused on the fundaments and the last 30 minutes on playing the game.

May Events

*NEW* YPR Boys Baseball League
Formerly known as Optimist Baseball, this is a league designed for boys to learn and play baseball at a recreation level in a fun and organized atmosphere. Players will also work on teamwork skills and learn how to be a team player. Ages will be split up K-2nd grade (coach pitch), 3-5th grade and 6-8th grade. 
When: Practices: Starting as early as May – lined up by your team’s coach
Games: Mondays & Wednesdays in June – specific game schedule sent out later
Time: Evenings TBA depending on number of teams, no earlier than 5:30 pm
Who: K-8th Graders based on the 22-23 school year grade
Where: York Ballpark Complex
Fee: $50, includes a jersey & hat
Registration Deadline: Monday, April 10, no late registrations accepted
  • Coaches, sponsors and umpires are always needed to make this league a success. Contact Michaela at mstuhr@cityofyork.net if you’re interested in any of these options. There will be a coach & umpire meeting on Tuesday, April 18, at 5:15 pm at the Community Center.  
    • Team sponsors: It is a $100 fee and the business logo would be on the back of the team’s jerseys.  
    • Coaches: we will need 2-3 coaches per team.
    • Umpires: this would be a paid position. You could umpire your child’s game plus the other games that night. Roughly 6 hours a week at $15/hr. Do not need to be certified, just have a knowledge of the game.

T-Ball
This introduction to baseball/softball is designed for boys and girls who will learn and practice the basic fundamentals in a fun, energetic, and organized atmosphere.  Players will also develop teamwork skills and learn how to be a team player.

NeRPA Youth Track and Field Meet
This meet will be available at no cost for boys and girls ages 8-13 years old as of December 31, 2023.  Athletes have the choice of competing in two field events and one running event or two running events and one field event; relays do not count towards a running event. First – Fourth place in each event will be invited to the Nebraska Youth Track and Field Championship Meet in Kearney on June 10th.  Also, we will be offering 50, 100, 200, 400 meter runs and 4x100 meter relay options in preparation for the Special Olympics.  Special Olympic athletes must be at least 8 years old. Summer-Long Events

Swimming Lessons
YPR will be offering public swim lessons in three sessions.  All sessions will be:  Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday.  Class size is limited & first come, first serve.  For any questions and registration information, contact the Community Center until the Family Aquatic Center is open.

Who: Anyone who wants to learn

Swimming Lessons Levels:
Beginner
Participants will learn water safety and basic swimming fundamentals.  Upon completion, participants will enter and exit the water, blow bubbles, bob, and front and back float with assistance.  Class is typically preschool-kindergarten but is not limited to any age.

Primary
Participants will continue to learn and practice water safety while building on previous skills learned.  Upon completion, participants will jump into chest deep water, fully submerge, front and back glide with assistance, and have knowledge of the kicks and arm motions of the swim strokes.  Class is typically kindergarten-1st grade but is not limited to any age.

Secondary
Participants will practice water safety while continuing to improve skills. Upon completion, participants will jump into chest deep water and front and back glide, swim freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, and elementary backstroke, perform a kneeling dive, and tread water with bobs.  Class is typically 1st-3rd grade but is not limited to any age.

Advanced
Participants will take their skills to deeper water and practice water safety at a higher level.  Upon completion, participants will jump and tread in deeper water, master freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, and elementary backstroke, continue to learn sidestroke and butterfly, dive, and go off of the diving board.  Class is typically 2nd-4th grade but is not limited to any age.

Professional
Participants will fine tune the skills they have learned from the previous levels.  Participants are good swimmers and feel confident around the water.  Upon completion, participants will dive off of the diving board, tread water for an extended period of time, complete feet and head first surface dives, retrieve objects in the deep end, and change direction while swimming all of the strokes.  Class is typically 3rd-5th grade but is not limited to any age.

*NEW* Build A Hut
Build a Hut Program offers challenges for building engineering skills, critical thinking skills, and teamwork.  This summer camp is not your traditional summer camp.  Students will spend 1 morning a week for 6 weeks participating in hands-on activities that will build skillsets in three major branches of engineering: construction, energy, and civil.  Upon competition of the camp experience, selected participants will compete with other teams from across the state and be paired with a local engineer to build a hut using off-grid technology to produce energy for power and water transportation.

Ready, Set, Rally
Ready, Set, Rally is a tennis league that teaches the fundamentals of tennis at a pace where the kids will develop a passion for the game.  It makes tennis extra fun with the use of age-appropriate racquets, balls, and court size.  Everything is slowed down and sized down, which makes the game easier and exciting for the kids to learn!

Archery Camp
Join YPR and the 4-H Extension office as we team up for a fun-filled week of learning all about archery! We will start with the basics and introduce safety topics before participants get to shoot. Then, we will wrap up the week at Recharge Lake’s Upper Big Blue Outdoor Archery Range. Bows and arrows will be provided, but you are welcome to bring your own if you have them. See you all out on the range!

Junior Lifeguarding
Gain the foundation of knowledge, attitude, and skills for the future lifeguard in you!  This camp will introduce youth to the skills needed for entry to the American Red Cross Lifeguard Course.  They will learn lifeguard responsibilities, job shadow actual lifeguards, and build decision-making skills.
When: Monday-Friday, July 24-28
Time: Monday-Thursday: 10:00 am-12:00 pm, Friday: 12:30-2:30 pm
Who: 11-14 Year Olds
Where: Family Aquatic Center
Fee: $30

Sandbox Saturdays
Bring your toddlers to enjoy some play time and burn off energy at the park in the giant sandbox!  YPR has all the sand toys that will let the tots be creative and interact with each other.
When: Saturday, August 5
Time: 10:00-11:00 am, drop in & play whenever
